Volunteer

LSFD Emergency Service Unit members are people like yourself, reputable community members of all ages with the common goal of helping their neighbors and visitors to our community. LSFD-ESU is truly "Neighbors Helping Neighbors!"

You do not need any previous emergency services experiences, but it is certainly welcome.  Whether you have experience or not, ESU members are required to do training Wednesday evenings (7-9 pm) every other week and also do monthly ride-alongs (approximately 8 hours per month) where you will work alongside our LSFD professional firefighters while they are on duty. The ride-alongs are an "open" schedule where your availability and flexibility is a priority. ESU members also help with community events.

The ESU training calendar is set up once a year in advance so you know in advance the plan. We do recognize that daily life gets in the way, so making every training session and event is not expected. Nonetheless, there is an expectation that you will commit the necessary time to meet the majority of our training and event requirements.  Once you attain a certain level of training, we will work with you to schedule ride-alongs to further your skills. Critical to the ESU program is that, once trained and qualified, and when available, you would be alerted to respond to LSFD fire headquarters (on Lebanon Road) and respond with other ESU members to provide support at the scene of emergency calls including structure fires, serious crashes and emergencies as needed.

Because of the time and resources the department dedicates to the ESU program and its members, there is an expectation that new members will make a long term commitment of several years. Many members have been with ESU for over 10 years and love being involved! Additionally, ESU membership is not intended to be an avenue to gain part-time or full-time employment with the department.  Finally, due to the limited membership positions available, we only accept people from the Loveland and Symmes communities.

If you commit the time, we can assure you that we will provide:

-Full training, equipment, (at no cost to you) guidance, leadership and ongoing support.

-A safe, effective and meaningful environment.

-Community service and emotional fulfillment. You will absolutely gain a new sense of community and pride as a member of LSFD ESU.

-Camaraderie with some really good people as a part of the Loveland-Symmes Fire Department.

LSFD ESU was founded in 2005 and has built a strong reputation of service and dedication. The volunteers help their fellow community members in times of need and enjoy a sense of accomplishment, achievement, and pride in the work they do. You'll learn new skills, make new friends, be a part of a team, give back to the community, and make a real difference.

After learning about us, if you would like to submit a preliminary interest form, please fill out the volunteer contact form on this page.

After reviewing your interest form, we will be in contact. Once your application is reviewed, the prospective members go through an interview process including a background investigation. During the interview, you will be given a complete overview of our operations and different opportunities that you can help us in making our organization - and the Loveland Symmes community - even better.
